Every year Docudays UA invites students to choose their favourite film in three festival competition prigram. Students' jury is formed by the Youth department of the Organizing Committee according to recommendations of youth organizations. Let us present five persons who will present students' choice at Docudays UA-2015.
“I believe that state administration can’t go just as it is. There should be profound researches and wide discussions of important questions on urban development. One of the frameworks which actualizes them in the best way is documentary cinema. ‘Lofty matters’ should be discussed in the language understood by everybody. Documentary cinema is the best practice. It is able to draw people’s attention to obscure but vital issues, demonstrate their human dimension. That’s why I love it. That’s why I love Docudays UA”.
“I’ve adored Docudays UA since 2011 when I first became a ‘book’ in the ‘Living library’ at the festival. Since then every year I’ve looked forward to March in order to find myself again in the whirl of extremely important films and among caring people. This is a week when my head is spinning from a burst of documentary films of high quality which demonstrate life as it is in its beauty and horror, joy and sorrow. The most valuable advantage of documentaries is that it unveils the other side of the story. We can see what is really happening in life opposite to what is performed according to someone’s plans. This cinema can broaden our mind, release us from stereotypes, and make us consider problems which are taking place around us. It inspires us to change the world for the best, starting first of all from ourselves”.
“Fundamentally, documentary cinema fixes the history of a certain period of time which our descendents will be able to watch again in a hundred years and remember those who will be gone already. In my opinion, documentary cinema is a result of a projection of artistic vision in the dimension of reality. Being a jury member is an important step for self-definition, as a possibility to see other directors inspires to create own films”.
“I became fond of the Docudays UA festival 5-6 years ago already. I remember being afraid of missing all classes and spending whole days in a screening room. Eventually, I started keeping diaries of the festival for web-resources and forums as a journalist, and that is how I received an official ground for spending 14-15 hours a day in the House of cinema on a daily basis. At the festival my ardent love of cinema magically combined with my specialty ‘social work’ which I chose. In my day Docudays UA gave me understanding that my avocation should be linked to my professional activity. Besides aesthetic enjoyment after each screening I feel that I change for the best. Even in cases when we can’t change the social situation we can experience it through a documentary, and become caring and hence more humane”.
“As for me, judging a documentary cinema is not only telling others how to live a life, but also an attempt to survive what I‘ve seen, to look behind the scenes where they shouldn’t have existed at all. Besides, I enjoy observing actions and meetings people before and after a screening. The hippies (chroniclers) by fixing the space around made whole video picture libraries of their routine which even now play an important role in our reconstruction of that period of time. Similarly, nowadays contemporary video chronicles already start forming a reality for us and future generations”.
