Announcing the Winners of the Children’s Competition on Cyberbullying. How I Stopped Being a Victim

30 May 2019

The independent jury of the National Ukrainian Children’s Competition on the topic of Cyberbullying: How I Stopped Being a Victim has selected its winners. They are five schoolchildren from different regions of Ukraine!

According to the terms of the competition, all the essays had to be based on real-life stories. That’s why this was the main criterion of evaluation for the jury. The jury also noted whether the essays actually developed the topic of cyberbullying, looked at what the child decided to do and what kind of action they took to stop being a victim of online bullying. Interestingly, each winning essay describes a different form of cyberbullying: trolling, slander, phishing, etc.

So the winners of the Cyberbullying. How I Stopped Being a Victim competition are:

Marta Novosad with her essay Sir Nox (Pidhaytsi, Volyn Region);

Lada Lisovenko with her essay The Tale of Cyber-Brazhulka (Kropyvnytsky, Kirovohrad Region);

Tetiana Zakharchenko with her essay Trouble in the Woods (Zaporizhia);

Kateryna Kusmarova with her essay Cyberbullying (Kharkiv);

Dmytro Fedorenko with his essay Cyberbullying (Domanivka, Mykolaiv Region).

The essays by the competition participants will serve as the basis of short animated documentaries in support of the Campaign Against Cyberbullying, which was launched by the Human Rights Department of Docudays UA.

The award ceremony for the winners will take place in the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center on June 3 at 12:00 p.m. The children will receive valuable gifts — tablets — and honorary certificates. In December 2019, the winners will also be invited to Kyiv to the presentation of the animated videos based on their stories, and in March 2020 they will participate in the International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA in Kyiv!

As a remainder: In April this year, Docudays UA together with the Institute for Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine and with the Ukrainian Animation Association UAnimA announced the National Ukrainian Children’s Essay Competition on the topic of Cyberbullying: How I Stopped Being a Victim.
