Unique opportunities for documentalists on Docudays UA-2016

27 March 2016

Young film directors from all over the world line up to meet these people. This year on Docudays UA festival well-known masters of documentary film industry will give lectures, master-classes and tell about support options for directors.

DocWorks UA/UK is an unusual presentation. This is one more possibility for Ukrainian film directors to find support for their documentary projects in developement. DocWorks UA/UK is a training and tutoring program on creating feature documentary films, founded by the British Council, Doc/Fest festival in Sheffield and Docudays UA.

During this presentation Silvia Vroblevska (busisness and marketing director of Doc/Fest in Sheffield), Christine Bardsley (Film Advisor at British Council) and Darya Bassel (Docudays UA program coordinator) will tell how to become a participant of DocWorks UA/UK program this June.

Ukraine is the second country where directors can join the training. The other training is held in partnership with Mexico - Docunexion 2015: UK-MX. In Ukraine it is going to be a multi-level studying for documentalists. During the training time participants will have a tutor for film development, receive help in finding financing and international connections with professionals in their country and in the UK.

Industrial initiatives of the most known European festival IDFA could also be useful to directors: a lecture by Melanie de Vocht. Every year she chooses documentary projects for Bertha foundation. IDFA Bertha Fund is an institution known in many countries. It supports around 500 documentaries in Afrika, Asia, the Middle East and Latin Amerika. For example, “Ukrainian Sheriffs” by Roman Bondarchuk (IDFA special prize) was also supported by this foundation.

The final chord is a pitching of the six progects of “The Guardian goes to Ukraine” contest. The admittance to the project presentation is free, so this is an opportunity to see documentalists present their works, find out what is important during the pitching, and why.

Besides that, Ukraine also has opportunities for cinematographers. You can find out about them in DOCU/CLASS space. Well-known Ukrainian film director Serhiy Bukowskiy will introduce his documentary school “StudioDoc”. The presentation of the Documentor platform will also take place on the festival. This is an opportunity for documantalists to show their films and receive money for screenings as well as to become a members of international film community.
