Screening and discussion of the film by Kseniya Dzhorno Crimea (2014)
Blue Hall of the Cinema House
Concept of the film Crimea occured to filmmaker Kseniya Dzhorno after her conversations with Crimean friends. Kseniya Dzhorno, who lives in the United Arab Emirates, wanted to tell about her motherland those who have never seen it.
“After the annexation of Crimea, I had no choice. I cannot believe that such repressions can be going on nowadays in the center of Europe”, the filmmaker tells.
Characters of the film comprise three generations of Tatars. A woman who has survived deportation 70 years ago, and a woman who remembers the return. Mother of a bride, who was born during deportation and came to Crimea when she was young. A girl born in Ukrainian Crimea. To all of them, Crimea is their one and only motherland.
The director has been shooting the film on her own for six days. She found locations for it in Bakhchisaray, Eupatoria, Saky, and Simferopol, staying at a Crimean Tatar family. For the sake of characters’ safety, some of the faces were hidden, and almost all names altered. Every day, Kseniya uploaded the material to an Internet server and left Crimea with no video.
After the screening, a discussion with the filmmaker and guest experts will be held.
